While the Lane family had moved on, leaving Brompton in 1887, one of the Lane's grandaughters came back to Fredericksburg and attended the State Normal School, which is known today as the University of Mary Washington. Helen Lane Daniel was part of the class of 1913 and is featured in the 1913 yearbook. Helen Lane Daniel was the daughter of Elizabeth, "Lizzie" Lane Daniel, one of the daughters of Helen Berry Lane and John Green Lane.

" Fair Helen is brimming with fun.
At school a great feat she has done;
For in Latin 'tis said
She remained at the head
Of a class which consisted of one."
